Ladakh Expedition – Trekking in Little Tibet/ India

Ladakh, a mystical land hidden behind the ridge of the Himalayas, is because of its alpine character and Buddhist cultural heritage also known as “Little Tibet“. Atmosphere of Buddhist monasteries, sceneries of snow-capped Himalayan peaks and fluttering of prayer flags is balm to the soul of every traveller and trekker. In this magical and unrepeatable, although seemingly barren alpine country, we have a few beautiful treks as well as recreational trips by jeeps through interesting places in surrounded country, such as a trip to the turquoise blue alpine lake Pangok Tso lying on the border with Tibet at 4300 meters, or visit to one of the many Buddhist monasteries which is Ladakh famous for.

For more capable tourists there will be an opportunity at the end of the trip to ascent to one of surrounding 6000 metre high peak. From the “Tibetan plateau” we will then move by plane back to the capital city of India and we will enjoy its perfect colours and scents and we will visit famous historical sites in and then we will have possibility in the former capital city of Agra to see allegedly the most beautiful building in the world and the greatest monument of love – Taj Mahal mausoleum, which the Indian poet Thakur wrote about that it is “tear on the face of eternity.”

 Programme:

1st – 2nd day: Departure from Europe to the India’s capital city – New Delhi, flight by local airline to Kullu, transfer from the airport by car to the picturesque Himalayan town of Manali, known as hipies movement center and frequent aim of honeymoons of wealthy Indians.

3rd day: Rest in Manali after tiring journey in the shadow of the first snowy Himalayan five thousands overhead, shopping and preparations for the first trek.

4th – 6th day: In case of good conditions acclimatization trek through Himalayan pass Hampton pass (4300 m) to the Chandra river valley (2700 m), alternatively jeep trip to the sacred Hindu lake Chandra Tal (Moon lake) at 4200 m.

7th – 8th day: Two-day jeep transfer through uppermost track in the world over the main ridge of the Himalayas to Leh. Along the way we will pass through three five-thousand passes Baracha La (4900 m), Lachalung La (5060 m) and Tangang La 5360 meters high with overnight in the yurt with the locals. On the way we will experience unforgettable scenery and views of alpine plateau, snowcapped Himalayan peaks in the background, passes over 5000 meters high, nomadic settlements and so on.

9th day: Rest in Leh on the way, visit to Buddhist monasteries and monuments in Thikse and Leh.

10th – 12th day: Trekking in beautiful countryside in the mountains of Ladakh Stok Range. For those interested there is an opportunity to hire horses to carry our heavy backpacks (about 25 EUR per person).

13th day: Day trip by jeep to turquoise lake Pangok Tso lying on the border with Tibet at 4300 meters.

14th – 17th day: With the help of a local mountaineering agency and its services we will go to the dominant of this region 6150 m high Stok Kangri, attempt to climb to the top, return to Leh. For less capable tourists there is alternative programme – visit to Buddhist monasteries in Lamayuru and Alchi, optional two-day trip to the lake Tso Moriri, the possibility of downhill on mountain bike from the mountain pass Khardung La 5400 m to Leh, the possibility of rafting on the river Indus that originates in the nearby Tibetan plateau and so on.

18th – 20th day: Flighty by domestic airlines from Leh to New Delhi, visit to historical sites such as Friday’s Mosque, Red Fort, India Gate, etc., visit to Agra, the Taj Mahal mausoleum, a ghost town Fatephur Sikri, Agra Fort, return to New Delhi.

21st day: Departure for Europe.

 The tour programme is only informative, we will have to adapt to current conditions, practicability of roads, weather and so on.

 The price includes full transportation in India, accommodation in simple hotels in double rooms, trip by jeep to Lake Pangok Tso, permissions to enter the border area, services of Slovak guide, trip to Agra, Taj Mahal entrance fees and monuments in New Delhi, arranging visa.

 The price does not include food (about 5 EUR day), visa (50 EUR), possible local climbing agency service, other admission fees to the historic sites.

 Minimum number of participants of the trip is 6.
